Part:BBa_K217000
cmv_tat_GFP
The part is controlled by a CMV (cytomegaolvirus) promoter. This promoter is constitutive (always on). Controlled by the promoter is a tat peptide sequence connected to GFP. Tat is a cell-penetrating peptide found in HIV-1. This fusion protein should be handled as Biosafety Level 2 because tat has the ability to cross cell membranes. Proper protocol includes covering exposed skin, goggles, and working in a proper microbiological hood. For more safety information, please see this [http://ors.bsd.uchicago.edu/IBC/resources/tatProtein.html tat Safety Page] from the University of Chicago.
Essentially, the cell that has this plasmid is will shoot out green "bullets" of GFP into its surroundings (and into itself).
